tl;dr — it’s a good keyboard, the Bluetooth controller is reliable, Topre is nice, replaceable batteries > internal battery, 60% is great, you literally never see the top hump, keys can be remapped and written to the device.
Let’s dig in
The keyboard is made of 99% plastic; it’s light but not too light, the batteries add the perfect amount of weight. It sounds great pre-lubed, better lubed. That’s subjective, but so is this entire blog post.
Bluetooth
Responsive and stable. It has multiple profiles, so you can easily swap between machines with a hotkey; that’s a nice touch.
I want to add that the MacBook Pro Bluetooth controllers have always been flakey, and sometimes the HHKB drops, and I have to restart it. This happens maybe once or twice a week. Not a fault on the device, but more on MacBooks in general.
Replaceable Batteries
This is superior in every way. The keyboard is designed to last, and not having an internal battery that will degrade is a major plus.
The hump
Non-issue. Honestly, it’s a design aesthetic at this point.
Conclusion
Great keeb, highly recommend. Price is a tad bit silly, but if you can get over the sticker shock, you’ll have a keyboard companion for many years to come.
